Davao City Athletic Association Meet 2017 Print


Despite the rain shower experienced by the participants and spectators, the curtains rose for the Davao City Athletic Association (DCAA) Meet 2017 at the open field of Davao City National High School (DCNHS), on November 6.
Capably spearheaded by the   Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Maria Ines C. Asuncion, CESO VI with the Technical Officials led by the Division Sports Coordinators  Jonas P. Piore, Nenita B. Prior, Dr. Lydia V. Ampo, and Dr. Johnito O. Galan, the ceremony offered a     delight to the crowd.
Mr. Michael D. Aportadera of the Davao City Sports Development Division and the  representative of City Mayor  Sara Duterte- Carpio expressed the all -out support of the City Government of Davao to the sports development  of the Division of Davao City.
“This laudable activity is not about winning or losing but focused on the character formation of our athletes,” said Mr. Aportadera.
The program commenced with a parade of athletes, coaches, chaperons and technical officials from the seven (7) competing units from both elementary and secondary divisions.
The colorful parade and “Saludo” performances continued as the marching bands of Davao City National High School and Sta. Ana National High School played lively music and provided gaily mood to the entire area.
The excitement sustained as Matthieu Adrien S. Tao, Palarong Pambansa 2017 Gold Medalist lighted the DCAA torch and the banners were raised by the Unit heads.
Before the opening program, a Holy Mass was held at the Assumption Parish Church, F. Torres St. at 1:30 in the afternoon.
DCAA Meet is an annual sports event conducted by Davao City Division that aims to hone the athletes in the different sports of their interest.
A total of 23 sporting events are to be contested in this annual activity: Archery, Arnis, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Chess, Baseball, Billiards, Boxing,  Gymnastics, Lawn Tennis, Football, Futsal , Sepak -Takraw,  Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Volleyball , Swimming , Wushu/ Wrestling , Dancesport, SpEd Bocce and Goal Boal will complete the five-day competition on November 6-10, 2017.
The DCAA participants are billeted at the Davao City National High School (Aida P. Placencia).



With 3 straight even scores on the three sets, the Unit 3 soccer team dominated the championship arena against their staunch rival, South Point School, at the Agro Football Field, November 9.

Precise goal-keeping of Victor Lagundi of SpEd Bangkal made the last ditch effort to gain the coveted DAVRAA slot in the elementary boys’ soccer team.

South Point team played hard enough gaining its win over Unit 6 early morning in the semis.

“Focus and determination pave the way for the championship crown for our team, “ seasoned coach Romalia Banta of Unit 3 said.

Banta sees to it that her team is focused on their play. As a team, she oversees the daily soccer practice at the Catalunan Grande Elementary School football grounds during the semestral break.

She has tapped the local barangay council headed by January Duterte along with major sponsor Lola Mommy’s restaurant. Donations include soccer balls, water, snacks and grass maintenance of the CGES football grounds. Coach Banta also has her team of national players/ trainers namely: John Philip De Los Santos, Jerus Hans Denzel Banta and Kevin Villarmino (Joy Dumigsi).
